Skyrad 0 #1 July 27, 2007 Lots of threads on Iraq not much on Afghanistan. In WWII the British casualty rate was 11% today in Afghanistan its 10%. This ones for the Brits out there giving Terry hell. piper17 1 #11 January 23, 2008 The war in Afghanistan hasn't been forgotten by anyone who knows were to go for the news. The MSM only covers what fits their agenda. Go read the various milblogs such as Blackfive.net, Michael Yon, Long War Journal, Mudville Gazette, Michael J. Totten, etc. Tons of info on Afghanistan by those who are actually outside the wire serving there...plus plenty of info on Iraq as well."A man can never have too much red wine, too many books, or too much ammunition"...Rudyard Kipling

billvon 3,090 #13 January 23, 2008 Yep - and it's a war against people who supported Al Qaeda when they attacked us. I am constantly amazed at how many people forget that, and instead concentrate their valiant keyboarding efforts on a war against someone who has never attacked us. Isn't that because most people see Iraq as at the very least an unjust war and quite probably illegal and so there is more focus on it. I know I am hijacking Skyrad's Afgan thread but it really does irk me that we are so immune to the damage we cause that the "news" only reports deaths in Iraq if there are more than about 20 people killed simultaneously - anything less is not newsworthy. We are constantly barraged with the terrorism "threat" and yet in the name of defence we do so much more damage. Imagine for a second that in this so called "war on terror" there were 10 deaths a day in the US or UK.Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. That is precisely why we went to Afghanistan and stayed out of Iraq.
juanesky 0 #16 January 23, 2008 Lol, don't you realize the media (most) will not be reporting news from Afghanistan or Iraq, when things tend to look good for US soldiers' mission over there? They are far too busy reporting deaths of drug addicts, like Renfro, Ledger "misterous death", what is Britney doing!. Get a clue would you! Exactly! And when they do send reporters there and they get kidnapped or blown to bits, then they use other reporters that say there's violence over there. It's totally unfair. juanesky 0 #18 January 23, 2008 Nope, they get bored and wait for hours on end in the ER of places like Anaconda, Taji, Victory, etc, waiting for a severly injure bodies to arrive via Helo so thay can do their report!. I discovered they get nauseated when their cameras accidentally get smeared by blood and what have you. billvon 3,090 #19 January 23, 2008 > Nope, they get bored and wait for hours on end in the ER of places like Anaconda . . . I don't think the 125 journalists who have been killed so far in Iraq are in the ER any more. (Well, a few might be, but they tend to end up in morgues eventually.) juanesky 0 #20 January 23, 2008 Up until 6 months ago the only time you saw them was hanging in those areas waiting for bloody images...or an incredible sensasionalist story, instead of asking soldier around, and digging for how the situation was in the area the were....But what would I know right? And if they end up in the morgue while not authorized, they would be detained."According to some of the conservatives here, it sounds like it's fine to beat your wide - as long as she had it coming." -Billvon
billvon 3,090 #21 January 23, 2008 >But what would I know right? I am sure you know quite a bit. But even the certain knowledge that Iraq is the best success story since World War II won't bring the dead reporters, US soldiers and innocent Iraqis back to life. I have a feeling they would all differ with your assessment if they could.
juanesky 0 #22 January 23, 2008 You want to see something actually different? Voices of Iraq. See if you can get a copy/rent it. Not everything is like disney by no means, but based on my experience with the press, I have seen them most of the time going after sensationalist news, instead of actually asking soldiers, and Iraqis, about what is going on, or their take on things, something you still are hesitant to believe, perhaps blurred with all that blubber you get for worthless news on entertainment celebrities that are not worth the time or personnel that go hunting them."According to some of the conservatives here, it sounds like it's fine to beat your wide - as long as she had it coming." -Billvon
